Big Bad Bettie Press runs on your support and good word of mouth.

At BBB Press we are a small team of
doers and dreamers who are all bold, brassy, and creative.  We believe in the value of the tangible and feel a certain joy when holding a limited edition work of art in our hands.  We believe that artists and innovators need to be part of the batter, not just the icing.

Become part of the "batter" by purchasing your copy today.
We have carefully curated and designed a unique journal that showcases the work of emerging artists and innovators.  Help us spread the word about their incredible work.

Be bold.
Be brassy.
Be creative.

But what should I do with this thing?
We came up with a few ideas just to get the ball rollin...

  • Put it on your bookshelf and enjoy it for years to come.
  • Share it with a friend.
  • Share it with your fellow artists and innovators.
  • Share it with a recent graduate.
  • Share it with someone in transition.  (...aren't we all?...)
  • Give it as a gift and impress your friends with your knowledge of emerging artists & innovators.
  • Use it as a guide to discover new and innovative projects.
  • Put it in your backpack, walk around for a while, and wait for it to hatch into another rare Pokémon creature.

You'll be glad you did.
And you'll feel good about supporting these incredible artists and innovators.

WHO & WHAT

The founder of BBB Press and many of our advisors and editors are recent graduates.  Faced with the scary question of "Now what?", we were inspired by the bold, brassy, and creative Big Bad Bettie and startedRabbit Rabbit, an annual curated journal of artists and innovators.  The phrase "rabbit rabbit" is a bizarre superstition spoken on the first day of each month for good luck.  The history of the phrase is vague and dotted, as many superstitions are, but to us it represents clean slates and new beginnings.   (Read more about BBB and our team.)

Each issue, we pick a theme and bring you a variety of stories on that theme. For our first issue, we were curious about the transition from higher education to the "real world".  We invited recent graduates with Masters and PhDs in a variety of fields to interpret, express, and comment on TRANSITION.  The result is a carefully curated book of artworks, images, and writings from graduates all navigating the next stage of their worlds.

Intended as a portable exhibition, at 5.5" x 8.5" Rabbit Rabbit is the perfect size to read on the go, pop in your bag, or curl up with on a Sunday afternoon. It's a great read for anyone experiencing a transition, especially those recent graduates out there.  We think it's pretty inspiring and we hope you do to.

ILEANA TEJADA is a Mexican-American artist born and raised in Southern California. A former NCAA Division II Track and Field Athlete, Ileana's work focuses on the topics of female-masculinity and gender conformity. Presenting herself as a subject, Ileana renders performances that question the normative rules of power into large-scale charcoal drawings.

ÖZLEM AYSE ÖZGÜR  was born in Istanbul and lives and works in both Istanbul and Tucson, AZ.  She was inspired to create new work for this issue based on her experience of transition.  Özlem received her MA in Philosophy from Stanford University and her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute.  Her work as a scholar and artist is concerned with cross-cultural understanding and the belief that visual art is a compelling way to deliver ideas and change society for the better.

T. RIOS is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a public-transit enthusiast.  In her witty and sarcastic essay, Rios reflects back on her time spent in AmeriCorps making photo copies, helping people, and accumulating life experience.

Big Bad Bettie, circa 1970 something

Happy Mother's Day!

At Big Bad Bettie Press we are all about power house women and bad ass chicks.  Big Bad Bettie was a bold, brassy, & creative lady.  She's our inspiration for this new imprint.  She was also the grandmother of our Founder & Navigator, Katie Harwood.

Several contributors to RR 01 TRANSITION are hard working mama's who have recently graduated.

Often pulling double duties in pursuit of their graduate degrees or PhDs, they are also play-date chauffeurs, booger wipers, cereal makers with exactly the right amount of milk, and so much more.

We love them &
the work they are doing.

Please consider supporting them and Rabbit Rabbit journal.

Please share this with the bad ass mamas in your life and pass this along to your friends.  RR makes a great artsy add-on gift to the beautiful flowers you already got for mom.

Artist & Innovator
Sneak Peak:

Gracing the cover of our inaugural issue is a unique gelatin silver print by artist Rachelle Bussières Blending a mixture of antiquated technologies with contemporary concepts and playing with a tension between hard dark lines and soft light curves, we thought it was the perfect image to introduce an issue on transition.  See more of Rachelle's images in the first issue of Rabbit Rabbit 01 Transition.

Rachelle earned her MFA in Photography at the San Francisco Art Institute in May 2015. She is the recipient of the 2015 Graduate Fellowship Award from the Headlands Center for the Arts, California; and the Award for Excellence from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation in 2008 and 2009. New Studio Space!

I am excited to announce that Big Bad Bettie Press has a new studio space in Boulder, CO.  Thanks in part to the wondrous team at Boulder Creative Collective, we now have a space to do all kinds of fun things.

I'm kicking off the celebration by offering Quick & Painless Portraits and some fun Art in the Sun activities this weekend!  There will be more celebrating ahead, but I am just too excited to sit on my hands this weekend - I wanted to spread the love with you all.

QUICK & PAINLESS PORTRAITS
Update that LinkedIn head shot - you know it's old.  Get rid of that mirror selfie on your online dating profile - you know who you are. :-)
We'll make fun environmental portraits - aka "the best kind" - no boring backdrops or cheesy lights.  Bring your self, your best outfit, and leave the rest to me.  I promise it will be quick and painless and you'll get your photos same day.
Time It Takes: 10-20mins
COST: $60!  That's crazy cheap! That's how excited I am about this new space.  I won't offer this price again, so take 20mins this weekend and get that profile pic updated.
